Will AI replace my job? Take the 15-minute test
In most cases, AI does not replace a whole job: it takes over some tasks and transforms others. That is the conclusion of the International Labour Organization in 2025. So the right question is: which tasks in my week? You can answer it yourself in 15 minutes, with the method below.
Is my job threatened by AI? What the studies say
Three sources we have read, with their limits.
- International Labour Organization (May 2025). Worldwide, one worker in four is in an occupation with some degree of exposure to generative AI. The highest exposure category accounts for only 3.3% of global employment. In high-income countries, total exposure reaches 34% of employment. Clerical occupations are the most exposed. The authors’ conclusion: job transformation is the most likely effect. See the study.
- World Economic Forum (January 2025). By 2030, 170 million jobs would be created and 92 million displaced worldwide, and 39% of workers’ current skills would be transformed or become outdated. 40% of the employers surveyed plan to reduce their workforce where AI can automate tasks, and 85% plan to train their teams. See the report.
- Swiss market (February 2026). The Swiss Confederation’s SME Portal reports the Swiss Job Market Index by Adecco and the University of Zurich: over one year, job advertisements fell by 20% in sales, administration and commerce, and by 18% in highly qualified IT occupations. They rose by 10% in highly qualified healthcare occupations. Generative AI is cited among the causes, together with the weak economy and IT outsourcing. See the article (in French).
These figures describe averages by occupation or by sector. None of them says what will happen to your role. The projections to 2030 are employers’ estimates, not facts.
How to know what can be automated in my job: the 15-minute method
You need a sheet of paper, or a note on your phone, and last week’s calendar.
- List your 10 main tasks (4 minutes). Concrete verbs: answer emails, prepare quotes, chase invoices, plan the team, visit customers. Not your job title.
- Note the hours per week (3 minutes). Roughly. The total should look like your real week.
- Classify each task (5 minutes). Three families, using the table below: AI can do it, AI strengthens it, it stays human.
- Add up the hours per family (1 minute). You get three numbers, for example 14 h, 16 h and 12 h.
- Choose one action (2 minutes). One task to hand over to a tool this month, one skill to strengthen, one human task to highlight to your employer.
The sorting table
| Family | Ask yourself these questions | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| AI can do it | Does the task happen on a screen? Does it always follow the same rules? Is a mistake quickly visible and easy to correct? | Meeting notes, payment reminders, the first draft of an email, data entry |
| AI strengthens it | Can AI prepare, but someone has to decide, check or adapt to the context? Does the result carry your name? | Quotes and offers, analysis of a file, team scheduling, prospecting |
| It stays human | Does it require being on site? Does it rest on trust, negotiation or handling a conflict? Does a person have to bear the responsibility for it? | Visiting a customer, negotiation, leading a team, a technical manual task |
This sorting is a personal benchmark, not a scientific measurement. The examples come from the preview of the Ryze Shift assessment, which classifies the hours of the week into three families: automated, augmented, human.
How to read your result
- Many hours in the first family: your role will change quickly. It is also where you can win back time, if you take the initiative before it is imposed on you.
- Many hours in the second: your value depends on how well you master the tools. See our guide to the AI skills employers want.
- Many hours in the third: your job is less exposed today. AI can still relieve you of the administrative work around it.
Are Swiss employers laying people off because of AI?
Public data does not allow anyone to state it role by role. What is measured is job advertisements: fewer postings in certain office and IT occupations in 2025, with several causes mixed together. At the same time, demand for AI skills is rising: PwC counted 25,000 job advertisements requiring AI skills in Switzerland in 2025, about 9,000 more than the previous year, or 1.8% of all advertisements. See the barometer (in French).
In other words: work is shifting. If your sorting shows a highly exposed role, a change of direction can be prepared calmly. Our guide career change at 40 and 50 describes the steps and the public support available in Switzerland.
Going further than the paper test
The Ryze Shift assessment follows the same logic, in a more complete form. It starts from your real tasks (you tick the ones that matter in a list), the time spent on each, your professional and human skills, and your command of AI tested in 8 scenarios. It is done on your phone, with no account, and it is free. At the end, you receive a report with numbers showing the recoverable hours, career paths scored against your skills and a 30-day plan.
The result is guidance. It is never an employment decision.
Frequently asked questions
Will AI eliminate jobs in Switzerland?
Nobody can put a reliable figure on it. The Swiss Confederation’s SME Portal notes that job advertisements fell in 2025 in sales, administration and IT, and that generative AI is among the causes cited, together with the economic situation and outsourcing. In healthcare, advertisements increased.
What does a job "highly exposed" to AI mean?
In the International Labour Organization’s study, exposure measures the share of an occupation’s tasks that generative AI could carry out. An exposed occupation is not an eliminated occupation: the ILO concludes that job transformation is the most likely effect, because most occupations contain tasks that require human involvement.
Which jobs will AI not replace?
No serious list can guarantee it. What the studies show is that exposure plays out task by task. Tasks that require physical presence, a relationship of trust or a responsibility borne by a person are the least exposed today.
How do I know what can be automated in my job?
List your tasks for the week with the time spent, then classify each one: what AI can do, what it strengthens, what stays human. The method on this page takes about 15 minutes. The Ryze Shift assessment does this sorting for you from your answers.
Are office jobs the most affected?
According to the ILO, clerical occupations keep the highest level of exposure to generative AI. That says nothing about your specific role: two people with the same job title can have very different weeks.
